Calling on both the Presidency and the National Assembly, Labour Party’s presidential candidate Peter Obi demands transparency regarding the N3 trillion budget padding discrepancy, representing over 10% of the national budget.

Senator Abdul Ningi of Bauchi Central previously raised concerns about the missing N3 trillion in the 2024 N28.7 trillion budget.

In response, a statement from Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, refuted Ningi’s claim, citing the National Assembly’s authorization to increase the budget by N1.2 trillion.

Expressing dismay over the lack of financial transparency, Obi emphasized the importance of accountability in handling public funds, labeling the situation as a breach of trust.

Sharing his thoughts on the issue, Obi expressed his deep concern and disappointment in the alleged N3 trillion variance between the approved budget and its implementation.

Highlighting the significant nature of this alleged discrepancy, he stressed its impact on the national budget, exceeding the combined budgets for education and health.

Insisting on a detailed account of the usage of public funds, Obi demanded a public clarification from both the National Assembly and the Presidency on the purpose and process behind this additional N3 trillion.

He underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in upholding democratic governance.
