Political realignments occasioned by recent court rulings have seen lawmakers in the Plateau State House of Assembly electing a new Speaker and Deputy Speaker to pilot their affairs going forward.
In a unanimous decision reached on Tuesday, 21st November 2023, the lawmakers elected Hon Gabriel Dawang, the member representing Pankshin North, as the new Speaker of the House.
Also, receiving his colleagues’ endorsement to serve as Deputy Speaker in the Assembly is Hon Timothy Dantong representing Riyom constituency.
Reports indicated that the former Speaker, Hon Moses Thomas Sule, and Deputy Speaker, Hon Gwottaon Fom, had both resigned their positions in the wake of the Court orders sacking some of the legislators on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Insider sources also hinted that the Court of Appeal’s judgment to sack Governor Caleb Mutfwang may have further engineered the changes witnessed within the State House of Assembly.
