The All Progressives Congress, APC, has criticised former SGF Babachir Lawal, claiming that Peter Obi’s loss in the 2023 presidential election has done Babachir Lawal irreparable harm.
The outspoken Lawal had claimed in Abuja on Tuesday that Obi, who ran for president under the Labour Party, (LP) banner in the last polls, won the presidential election on February 25 instead of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
But in a statement signed by APC’s National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, the party said that the former SGF is spreading unfounded rumours rather than reflecting soberly on his political gaffe.
According to him, “Mr. Lawal’s analysis based entirely on the figment of his warped imagination rather than on hard facts and figures shows that the defeat of his principal, Peter Obi, at the poll has done incalculable damage to his psyche and his capacity for rational thought.” The fact that he thought the election would take place in May 2023 instead of February was indicative of his mental instability.
“We challenge Babachir Lawal to produce a full breakdown of his so-called ‘aggregated evidence gathered from independent sources,’ which he claimed proved that Obi won the poll, or remain silent indefinitely.
“It is a huge disrespect, if not a breach of his political principle, that he did not offer these data to aid Obi prove his case before the Presidential Elections Petitions Court.
Running a negative opinion on a case before the Supreme Court is extremely irresponsible, and Babachir Lawal should have known better.
However, he has not gotten over his disappointment at not being able to run for office with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on a united ticket.
Babachir Lawal needs help from a trained counsellor and has our sympathy. It’s clear he may never recover from the humiliation of seeing his political career end at the hands of President Bola Tinubu, who, against all chances, defeated Mr. Peter Obi, who ran for president by playing on religious and ethnic divisions.
“Thank God, Nigerians of all different backgrounds and beliefs voted for the best candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, instead of Babachir Lawal and Peter Obi.
“Further, it is quite uncharitable for Mr. Babachir Lawal to question the professional competency of President Tinubu’s appointees, some of whom he cannot hold a candle to in terms of political and professional accomplishments.
When it comes to politics, Babachir Lawal is a featherweight who believes he is a heavyweight. His political career was a dismal failure in the State of Adamawa, as he lost the election for ward and local government in Hong three times out of three tries.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari, out of respect for diversity, elevated him to the high post of SGF, where he was later fired without due process for very poor performance and dishonourable conduct, notwithstanding his notorious failure as a politician. It would be inappropriate for someone like Babachir Lawal to comment on President Tinubu’s selections due to his lack of experience in the field.
We are certain that the President’s appointments will live up to the trust he has placed in them by fulfilling the goals of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
While they’re at it, we think it’s important to remind Babachir Lawal to stop being a distraction and instead focus on running his farm.
