In light of the recent explosion in Ibadan, former governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate for 2023, Peter Obi, paid a condolence call to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Dele Rotimi and Aisha Yesufu, two political activists, go with Obi to the private meeting.

The governor clarified that the explosion was caused by unlicensed miners storing explosives in the wrong place, which prompted corrective action to fix the found errors.

Governor Makinde acknowledged that he had received concerns from Peter Obi and Bola Tinubu. He did, however, take particular notice of Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of his own party, who has not been in contact.

In his words “Peter Obi came here to commensurate with us over the explosion. Though investigations are still going on. It was simply illegal miners storing explosives in an environment where they shouldn’t be. So, all the lapses that allow such to happen have been addressed.

“Three musketeers contested the last presidential election. Tinubu has reached out to me; you (Peter Obi) has reached out to me. But my own party candidate, Atiku Abubakar, not even a call or text message. I’m saying this openly for our leader to know there’s a time for politics and time for humanity,” He said.
