Peter Obi spent N744 million on 2023 Election legal battle

The fundraising team for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization has disclosed that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, allocated a substantial N744,500,000 towards legal expenses following his defeat in the 2023 presidential race.

The chairperson of the fundraising team, Aisha Yesufu during a press conference in Abuja on Thursday shed light on this expenditure, underscoring the campaign’s commitment to transparency and accountability in political financial matters.

During the conference, she detailed the campaign’s strategic approach, which included providing assistance to over 100 groups nationwide, conducting media campaigns that reached a staggering 11 million individuals through various platforms like radio, community engagement, and social media.

Contrary to reports suggesting otherwise, Yesufu clarified that polling unit agents were indeed paid, with N324 million allocated for their mobilization.
However, financial constraints hindered the campaign from fully utilizing television adverts.

Instead, significant amounts were allocated for campaign materials procurement (N258,374,330), media expenses including radio broadcasts (N16,432,867), and election promotion (N10,808,948).

The staggering sum of N744,500,000 was dedicated to covering legal expenses incurred in challenging the election results.

“For the election promotion expenses, we had N10,808,948 and deployed N744,500,000 to cover legal expenses. We thank everyone who donated in cash and kindness.”, she said.
