Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election Peter Obi has expressed profound shock and dismay over the disturbing reports of a heinous incident that unfolded in Ehime Mbano, Imo State, on Tuesday.

This incident involved the ruthless killing and burning of members of the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police Force by criminal elements.

In a statement on X, Obi condemned the brazen and heartless act perpetrated by these criminals, emphasizing that such cruelty cannot be allowed to persist within our society and nation. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Police Force, and the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones in this violent attack.

He said: “I have read, with utter shock and dismay, the harrowing reports of the killing and burning of some men of the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police Force by some criminals along Ehime Mbano, Imo State, on Tuesday.

“Such a level of callousness from criminal elements must not be tolerated in our society and nation. I condole with the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Police Force, and the families who lost their loved ones in this violent attack.”

In addition to offering prayers for the families affected, Obi urged the security agencies to diligently pursue and apprehend the individuals responsible for this heinous crime, ensuring they face the full weight of the law. Given the ongoing challenges of insecurity in the country, he called upon the general public to exercise heightened caution and increase their awareness of security issues.
