Reno Omokri, a fomer aide to ex-Nigerian President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, has lambasted the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, over statement on the Police budgetary allocation, number of Nigerian delegates who attended the COP28 summit in Dubai and GlaxoSmithKline, GSK exiting the Nigerian market.

The former aide in a tweet, Friday, said that it is a big fat lie that the total budget for policing 200 million Nigerians is only the ₦57bn allegedly allocated to the Police Service Commission.

According to him, in addition to the above funding streams from FG, each state is expected to provide funding for their police state commands, while noting that Nigerian police also generate revenue of about ₦100 billion annually from providing police officers to VIPs, banks and other corporate organizations.

While giving another instances of Peter Obi’s alleged lie, Omokri said, he lied that the federal government sent 1411 people for #COP28 sumit in Dubai, only for the presidency to give a lower figure.

“This is another lie and dishonesty from Peter Obi. The Police Trust Fund is only one budget for the police. And their role is not even policing. Their role is to provide support for the police via equipment and other critical needs. Additional funding for the police comes from the Ministry of Police Affairs, the National Security Adviser’s Office, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the Police Service Commission.

“In addition to the above funding streams from the federal government, each state is expected to provide funding for their police state commands. Furthermore, the Nigerian Police also generate revenue of about ₦100 billion annually from providing police officers to VIPs, banks and other corporate organisations. By the time you add all of these allocations, you are looking at several hundreds of billions of Naira.

“Therefore, it is a big fat lie that the total budget for policing 200 million Nigerians is only the ₦57 allegedly allocated to the Police Service Commission.

“This is not the first lie he is telling against this administration. Peter Obi lied that the Nigerian government sent 1411 people for #COP28. He also lied that GlaxoSmithKline left Nigeria due to our poor economic management when, in fact, they left India and Kenya before leaving Nigeria due to a change in their business model.

“Peter Obi has displayed either ignorance or dishonesty. In his desperation, Peter Obi and his Arise Peoples Party may not mind sponsoring a guerrilla movement to instigate war in Nigeria if their lies fail to incite the type of #EndSARS like civil unrest they hope will lead to regime change.”
