The series of mishaps that have occurred in the country recently are both saddening and of great concern, according to Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP.

In a post on his social media platform, X, on Tuesday, Obi urged Nigerians to prioritize the safety of their lives and property and to avoid engaging in dangerous activities.

He also commiserated with the families who lost loved ones in the recent tragic incidents and prayed that they would find the strength to cope with their loss.

One of the incidents he mentioned is the explosion that occurred in an illegal oil refining site in Ibas community, Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State, on Sunday night, which reportedly claimed the lives of about 35 people.

Obi also referred to a boat that capsized while carrying 22 passengers from Kasabu village in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State to Yauri, Kebbi State.

Obi described these incidents as deeply depressing, considering the impact they had on the families of the deceased.

In his own words, he stated, “These tragic incidents have claimed the lives of many of our fellow citizens in the past few days. Reports show that about 35 persons were reportedly killed in an explosion in an illegal oil refining site in Ibas Community, Emuoha Local Government Area of Rivers State on Sunday night. And over 30 other people, according to reports, lost their lives following a tanker explosion at Koko junction along Warri – Benin Highway in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State on Sunday night. Also on Monday, a boat conveying 22 passengers from Kasabu village in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State to Yauri, Kebbi State, capsized. We must remember that these numbers represent human beings who will forever be missed by their grieving families.”

Furthermore, he expressed his concern about the circumstances surrounding the fuel tanker explosion, suggesting that economic desperation and the current hardships in the country resulting from bad governance may have compelled people to take such fatal risks. He strongly advised Nigerians to avoid engaging in such dangerous activities and emphasized the need to prioritize personal safety.

Obi concluded by saying, “We all need to stay alive to build and live in the New Nigeria we aspire to. I sincerely extend my condolences to all the families who lost their loved ones in these tragic incidents and pray for God’s comfort during this difficult time. May the departed souls rest in eternal peace.”
