Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party Presidential flag bearer, Peter Obi, has voiced criticism against the current administration’s Coastal road project, deeming its timing inappropriate and its prioritization misplaced.

In a statement shared on Monday via his official channels, Obi emphasized the need for an immediate review of the Coastal road project, redirecting attention towards the numerous internal road projects across the country that are in dire need of rehabilitation. He highlighted the importance of focusing on projects that would directly impact the economic growth and living standards of citizens on a day-to-day basis.

Expressing concern over the plethora of abandoned road projects nationwide, Obi cited examples from various geopolitical zones, underscoring the hazards posed by incomplete infrastructure to both safety and regional connectivity. He pointed out that despite the allocation of substantial budgets, many critical road projects remain unfinished, posing a challenge to economic progress and overall development.

Obi advocated for a shift in priorities, urging the government to allocate resources towards the repair and completion of existing infrastructure before embarking on new ventures. He emphasized the necessity of fiscal discipline and strategic allocation of funds to address the pressing needs of the populace and ensure that investments serve the collective welfare of the nation.

In conclusion, Obi reiterated the importance of focusing on repairing existing infrastructure over undertaking ambitious projects that may linger unfinished for decades, emphasizing the imperative of prioritizing the well-being and safety of citizens above all else.
