Peter Obi Canvasses 5-year Single Term for President | METROWATCH

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has proposed a single five-year term for Nigeria’s president.

Obi stated that the plan was part of his campaign during the electioneering period and that he would have filed for a constitutional amendment to limit the president’s term to five years.

He spoke during a news conference in Abuja on Monday, when he addressed concerns raised by the Supreme Court’s recent verdict, which confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s win in the previous election.

“On the issue of a single term, we campaigned on the issue of restructuring and reform and that would have included an amendment to make this Constitution be a workable and functional Constitution that would be productive for Nigerians. I included in that would have been the issue of single tenure.

“I would go for a five-year tenure which would go for thirty years rotational.”
