Peter Obi has urged relevant agencies to ensure their operations meet the highest safety standards, considering the recurrent nature of tragic incidents that have occurred in Nigeria.

In a recent post on his X account, Obi expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic incidents. He began by addressing the explosion at a petrol station in Ile Ife, Osun State, which resulted in injuries to 26 students from Obafemi Awolowo University. “My heart goes out to the affected students and the institution as I pray to God to grant them perfect healing of mind and body,” he stated.

He also extended his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the boat accidents in Rivers and Anambra States, which claimed approximately 28 lives. “These deeply troubling news of the loss of lives and serious injuries to our brothers, sisters, and children need to be addressed, to forestall future occurrences,” he said.

Obi emphasized the importance of safety in public spaces and transportation, stating that “the life of every Nigerian must be jealously guarded and protected.”

In his closing remarks, Obi expressed his hope that such painful incidents will not happen again. He said, “I commiserate with the bereaved families and pray for eternal rest for the dead and quick recovery for the injured.”
