Peter Obi, the Labour Party candidate in the February 25 presidential election, commended Nollywood actress Funke Akindele for her achievement with the blockbuster movie ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ which set a record by grossing N1 billion within three weeks of its cinema release.

In a tweet from his X profile on Saturday, Obi praised the movie for reflecting the complex challenges faced by many less-privileged families in Nigeria. He described the accomplishment as a historic moment in the Nigerian movie industry and emphasized Nollywood’s significance as one of the country’s biggest exports over the past decade.

Obi congratulated Funke Akindele for her dedication, hard work, and passion in the movie industry. He highlighted that ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ skillfully addresses the struggles of less-privileged families in Nigeria in a comic and entertaining manner.

While acknowledging Akindele’s previous successes with ‘Battle on Buka Street’ and ‘Omo Ghetto,’ Obi urged Nollywood to continue telling stories that inspire hard work, integrity, and productivity among Nigerians.

President Bola Tinubu also extended congratulations to Akindele for the movie’s success, making it the highest-grossing Nigerian film to date. ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ surpassed the opening weekend records of Akindele’s previous films and continues to break records in Nigerian cinema.

Directed by Adeoluwa Owu (Captain Degzy), the film features a star-studded cast, including Nse Ikpe Etim, Timini Egbuson, Ebelle Okaro, Uzor Arukwe, Genoveva Umeh, and Nosa Rex. It tells the story of a family attempting to rob a mall to raise money for their mother’s hospital bill but encountering armed robbers in the process.
