More than a thousand occupants of a residential building in Ketu area of Lagos have been rendered homeless following a partial collapse of the building on Oduntan Street in Agboye Estate, on Saturday.

About 48 hours after the government issued an eviction notice, residents are still trying to salvage their belongings.

The occupants are asking the Lagos state government to provide makeshift shelters for them.

  3. 3:55: It's always good to hear 2 sides of a story. So… after the partial collapse on Saturday, when the residents were told to evacuate the building, my people did the exact opposite… they rushed inside and that caused the building to start shaking! Some of these people don't seem to understand how lucky they are to be alive.
I think the government should try to help rehouse at least the most needy, but I'm not sure they have the resources to cater a a thousand people. Perhaps the money to rehouse them should be forcibly retaken from the greedy landlord that kept collecting rent even after being told to stop letting the building out.
