Major opposition leader Peter Obi has asked President Bola Tinubu to do more while commending the latter’s move to cut his number of travel entourage. Mr Obi described the president’s plan as “one positive step” but “this measure is just scratching the surface as it is limited in scope.”

For trips within the country, the president is expected to have an entourage of at most 25 officials and not more than 20 personnel during foreign trips

“The just announced 60% cut in the size of federal official entourages on travels is one positive step towards the reduction of cost of governance and a way of halting wastage,” Mr Obi said Wednesday on X.

He stressed that the “measure is just scratching the surface as it is limited in scope and can only lead to a negligible saving.”

The Labour Party 2023 presidential standard-bearer added, “We are yet to be told how much savings this will amount to. What our current economic reality demands is a 60% reduction in the total cost of governance at the federal level.

“This implies that the recently passed federal budget needs to be revised to cut all wasteful and unnecessary items.”
