Obi Dedicates Sun Award To Nigerians

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party and one-time Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi who has emerged as the Political Icon of the  Year 2023 at the Sun Awards has dedicated the honour to ordinary Nigerians.

Obi who took to his official X handle Saturday night to express his unreserved satisfaction with the management of the Sun newspaper for its effort to recognise the contributions of citizens towards the growth of the nation said the dedication of Nigerians to the evolution of a more responsive nation will not go in vain.

The former Governor said he was dedicating the award that he received to impoverished Nigerians “facing uncertainty about their next meal”

The man who loves to describe himself as a trader admitted in his reaction that he has always been very skeptical about accepting awards bestowed on him.

“I’m usually hesitant to accept awards in the face of our nation’s challenges”, Obi stated on X,  but “this recognition is unique because it aims to celebrate those making significant contributions in various ways to get the Nigeria of our dreams.

“It also provides opportunities to applaud those who have made enormous sacrifices for our progress.”

Thanking Nigerians for the support and encouragement that he has enjoyed, the leader of the Labour Party remarked,  ”

“I dedicate this award to the impoverished Nigerians facing uncertainty about their next meal.

“And extend my appreciation to fellow Nigerians, especially the youth, who believe in our mission and who have remained committed to our journey for a New Nigeria.”

He further emphasized the need for the people to unite, saying that politics should be about building a united, resilient and truly progressive society.

As he put it, “Your dedication is not in vain. My political journey is about building a better society and despite the setbacks of the 2023 elections, I urge us to unite beyond tribe, religion, and party affiliations.

“Together, let’s break free from bad governance and create the New Nigeria we envision.”
