President Bola Tinubu has approved the nomination of Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso to serve as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Dr. Yemi Cardoso is a financial and development expert who has worked in the private, public, and non-profit sectors for over thirty years. He is now the Chairman of Citibank Nigeria’s Board of Directors. Throughout his career, he has made substantial contributions to many organizations and played an important part in defining Nigeria’s economic development.
Public service and leadership in 1999, as Nigeria transitioned to civilian democratic rule, Yemi Cardoso was appointed as the first Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget for Lagos State. In this role, he played a pivotal role in crafting and overseeing the implementation of a blueprint that catalyzed economic development in Lagos, one of the world’s largest megacities.
