The Board of Trustees, BoT, of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has suspended its candidate in the 2023 presidential election, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for alleged anti-party activities.

The BoT also suspended the National Working Committee of the party as it has now appointed new national officers headed by Dr Agbo Major as acting National Chairman and Ogini Olaposi as acting National Secretary together with 18 others.

This suspension is expected to last for six months.

The National Working Committee of the party on Thursday, August 24, 2023, had announced the suspension of the founder of the party, Dr Boniface Aniebonam and Major who is the National Publicity Secretary.

Secretary of the BoT, Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi, accused Kwankwaso of fraternizing with President Bola Tinubu, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, without the boardโ€™s authorization.

Abdullahi also announced that the board has stripped Kwankwaso of the national leader status in the party.

The secretary of the BoT said the purported suspension of the NNPP founder was a flagrant gross violation of the partyโ€™s constitution.

He pointed out that Aniebonam had resigned as the BoT chairman and a new BoT Chairman, Dr Chief Tope Aluko was elected with Abdulahi as new BoT Secretary, while High Chief Tony Obioha was elected as BoT spokesperson.

Abdulahi said the actions of the NWC has rendered void the pre-election Memorandum of Understanding signed with Kwankwasia Movement, The National Movement and National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders.
