Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), expressed on the Politics Today program by Channels Television that had Peter Obi, the chosen representative of the Labour Party (LP), possessed stronger qualifications, Nigerians would likely have chosen him in the voting process that took place on February 25, 2023.

Wike’s remarks were given exclusively during the Wednesday episode of the show. The former governor of Rivers State disclosed that, in the closely contested election, he lent his support to the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) instead of his party’s nominee, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

When queried about whether Peter Obi would have been more adept at handling the substantial challenges confronting the Nigerian economy compared to Tinubu, had Obi emerged victorious, Wike mentioned that he no longer engages in discussions concerning presidential candidates.

“I don’t want to discuss social media issue,” the FCT minister said. “I don’t discuss about presidential candidate any longer; I discuss about the economy, the President, what he has to offer.”

“If he (Obi) would have been better, Nigerians would have voted for him.”

In the election, Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, secured the third position, with the APC’s Tinubu emerging as the victor. Both the LP candidate and the PDP counterpart have initiated legal proceedings to contest the verdict of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which declared Tinubu as the winner of the election.
