President Bola Tinubu has given marching orders to the chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Abdullahi Ganduje, to bring back former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, his godson, Governor Abba Yusuf; and other Kano bigwigs back into the APC fold. The move is one of the steps taken to checkmate plans by the opposition to present a united front in 2027.

Atiku Abubakar, of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), first voiced the possibility of a merger of opposition political parties come 2027. “If we don’t come together to challenge what the ruling party is trying to create, our democracy will suffer for it, and the consequences of it will affect the generations yet unborn,” said Atiku, who was the PDP presidential candidate in the last election.
