A coalition of political pressure groups in the Obidient Movement, rallying support for the presidential ambition of Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party, has averred Nigeria is in great need of help urgently.

The support groups argued that if the situation is not salvaged, it will not portend well for the future of the country, adding that the help Nigeria needs ought to come from within Nigeria and Nigerians themselves.

During a coalesced meeting of the various support convened by Dr Harna Gorah, Dr Michael Chukwujekwu, Pastor James Ime, Ebere Obiesie and Yinka Quadiri, the coalition raised an alarm over the state of the judiciary in Nigeria.

They affirmed the judiciary is the hope of man while maintaining that solutions to the issues bedevilling the electoral process in Nigeria, and the issues of governance can only be achieved through selfless commitment to the nation.

While condemning the acts of violence, thuggery, intimidation, disenfranchisement, and killings that culminated the 2023 General Election in the country, the support groups cautioned that politicians must show firm commitments to the youths, children of Nigeria, the grandchildren and children unborn.

They observed that citizens expect a Nigeria where people of all working ages could take leadership and take Nigeria forward in the current digital era, without fear of favours, alliances, and external political interferences.

“A Nigeria where the human and economic capital endowed with natural and mineral resources could not stand against her in judgement for neglect and non-utilisation; yet impoverishing in debt and consistent borrowing. A Nigeria where the life and welfare of citizens matter.

“The country is getting worse due to the pains, humiliations, denials, ever-increasing cost of living, insecurity, banditry, Boko Haram, menace of unknown gunmen, kidnapping, illicit drugs dealings, harassment and jungle justice.

“Also, privatisation of the judiciary seems to intensionally murder the sleep in Nigeria. What option is left? Sleep is murdered, and the uncertainty of daily square meals has become a continuous source of depression for families. There is no one to cry to!

“The masses are mocked by the perpetrators of Nigeria’s sorry state. If there is a time for a turn-around in Nigeria for the sake of posterity, it is now. Yes, the time is now for citizens to take back their country,” the support groups stated in a joint communique released following the meeting.
