Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for president in 2023, has bemoaned the state of affairs in Nigeria, claiming that many things there are wrong and need to change.

Obi lamented the nation’s problems, but claimed they were self-inflicted.

Speaking on Friday at Princeton University’s Chinua Achebe Symposium, Obi urged Nigerians to start working towards the creation of a nation driven by competence and dedicated to combating corruption.

2023 Presidency: Peter Obi Sends Message To Nigerian Youths

Obi stated that the leadership must be dedicated to upholding the law, and in what looks to be a jab at the debates surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s academic credentials, he added that the leaders of Nigeria must have credentials that can be independently verified.

The former governor of Anambra State stated in a series of messages on his account on X (previously Twitter) that rascality cannot be used as a gauge of success in Nigeria.

Obi said: “I’ve just commenced the delivery of my keynote address at the Chinua Achebe Symposium at Princeton University- the trouble with Nigeria is self-inflicted. If Achebe was alive, he would have taken back the book. When he wrote it, there was no trouble.

“Now, there is real trouble in Nigeria.

UPDATE: Peter Obi Is Really Crossing The Line – APC

“We can start thinking of a new Nigeria with competence, and capacity that is committed to fighting corruption. Is it possible to fight corruption? The answer is yes!

“Rascality has become a measure of success in Nigeria. That must change.”

“We must have leadership that is committed to the rule of law.. that has an identity and credentials that can be verified.

“If India can feed its population, Nigeria with one-seventh of her population can do the same.”
