Naira appreciates against the Dollar as CBN clears backlog

The Nigerian currency (₦) has seen some sunlight as it gains against the US dollar in the parallel market.

Reacting to the news of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) clearing its Foreign Exchange backlog, the naira rose to ₦1,120/$ on November 2.

The growth is 4.27% against the previous ₦1,170/$, which dollar was being sold by Bureau de Change operators.

Presidential candidate and former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, shared his opinions on Nigeria’s current situation and how it grew to become this way.

The Labour Party’s member, Peter Obi, blamed Nigeria’s lack of evolution and growth on bad leadership and poor planning.

He was grateful that God had blessed Nigeria; all the country lacked was good leadership and excellent planning to take the country even further ahead.

“We must stop people from stealing public money. We must stop people from wasting public money; it is not their private money, and all of us are involved; we must not celebrate them,” he said.

Central Bank of Nigeria debunks rumours on scarcity of Naira notes

The Apex Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has debunked the growing rumours about the shortage of naira notes.

AbdulMumin, the director corporate communications, cleared the air on the matter by debunking the rumour and assuring Nigerians that there was sufficient currency to sustain the country.

“Public members are therefore advised to guard against panic withdrawals as sufficient stock facilitates economic activities. Nigerians are also advised to embrace alternative modes of payment which would reduce pressure on using physical cash,” he concluded.

Kazakhstan opens its doors to Nigeria and 79 other countries without a visa

Like Kenya, Kazakhstan, one of the biggest countries in Central Asia, has opened its arms to Nigerians and 79 countries, willing them to visit the country without needing a visa.

The Kazakhstan Prime Minister, Alikhan Smailov, stated in his press release that nationals from 109 countries can retrieve an e-Visa or electronic authorisation before entering the country.

The Central Asian country is trying to improve its tourism sector as it has an investment sum of $860 million compared to 2022’s record.

Presidency addresses yacht purchase, says it is for Naval

After the news spread about the president spending ₦5 billion on a yacht, there has been unrest concerning the unfair national budget spending on things considered inconsequential.

The Nigerian presidency has come out to explain that the yacht purchase is not for President Bola Tinubu but as the fulfilment of a request from the office of the Chief of Naval Staff to the Ministry of Defence.

According to Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, the presidential yacht in the budget is an Operational Naval boat with specialised security gadgets suitable for high-profile operational inspection and not for the president’s use.
