Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has called for a thorough investigation into the alleged financial impropriety leveled against the National Chairman of the Party, Comrade Julius Abure. Obi made the call during a media briefing in Abuja while rendering an account of the 2023 Obi-Datti presidential campaign organization.

He suggested that a reputable audit firm should be appointed to audit and deal with the account of the party, and the allegations and counter-allegations should be thoroughly investigated and verified. The LP National Treasurer, Mrs. Oluchi Oparah, was suspended for six months by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the LP on Wednesday for allegedly dragging the partyโ€™s name into the mud.

Oparah had accused the LP National Chairman of mismanaging N3.5bn raised from the sale of nomination forms and fundraising activities in the build-up to the 2023 general election. She also alleged that the Abure-led NWC was working with the Edo State Government and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the September 2024 Governorship polls.

The FIRS chairman, Zach Adedeji, also criticized the Tax Credit Scheme on road construction introduced by the Buhari administration, stating that it was hindering the performance of the NNPCL and that the scheme was unlawful and should be discontinued.
