Mobile Court prosecutes 43 Artisans in Delta over Environmental Law

Illegal Occupiers of under the flyover Bridge, around the Koka junction and unregistered Artisans, whose activities in the area, have become security threats and defaced the aesthetics beauty, despite its enlightenment campaigns, besides holding a strategic meeting with all stakeholders on the impending exercise and the need to register and move down to the convergence centre in Oko, were on Thursday, May 2nd apprehended and arraigned before the Asaba Magisterial District Mobile Court, for contravening Section 105 of the National Environmental Health Practice Regulations, 2016, at the expiration of the grace period given to them, while street traders, who built, makeshift shops on the road to Inyanga market, in Akwuofu, Asaba, the Delta State capital have their tables crushed by the very energetic Taskforce Committee on Environment, led by it’s high voltage Chairman, Comr Godspower Asiuwhu, a former Commissioner in the state, who had swung into action at the wee hours of the day, under the professional combined security coverage.

The Taskforce, whose mandates are for the implementation and Enforcement of registration process for immigrants, labourers and scavengers were commended for taking the bold steps but the fear is the sustainability of the tempo.

However, the chairman of the special Taskforce committee, Comr Godspower Asiuwhu, who allayed the fear of the masses assured that the exercise won’t be a hit and run.

At the end , 44 persons were prosecuted, 43 fined ten thousand naira each or with an option of spending seven days in the prison and one was discharged and acquired by the Chief Magistrate Kekeje Kalu Faith led Mobile Court.
