Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde has commended Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, lauding his display of sportsmanship and remarkable maturity throughout and after the 2023 presidential elections.
Speaking at the 12th Annual Zik Lecture Series in Awka themed “Reclaiming Zik’s World: Claiming Justice and Africa’s Sustainable Development,” Makinde drew parallels between Obi and Nnamdi Azikiwe, highlighting Obi’s commitment to the nation’s unity despite unfavourable election outcomes.
Makinde emphasised the importance of such conduct, stressing its vital role in Nigeria’s progress.
He urged Nigerians to rise above tribal associations, emphasising the need for collective contributions toward national development and unity.
Reflecting on Azikiwe’s ideals, Makinde envisioned a united Nigeria, promoting fair structures to foster coherence and healthy competition among federating units for the greater good rather than division.
