The Association of Local Government Nigeria (ALGON) has elected Maifata Aminu Mu’azu, the chairman of the Lafia Local Government Area in Nasarawa State.

David Kolade Alabi, a former polytechnic teacher whose five-year term ended in 2024, will be replaced by the politician turned teacher.

The National Executive Council committee meeting of the body last Thursday elected Mu’azu, according to ALGON spokesman Obiora Orji.

He served as the association’s deputy president up until his election. He also held the position of national treasurer for the organization on occasion.

In 2017 and 2018, he also worked with Tanko Al-Makarura, the former governor of Nasarawa State, as a Special Advisor on Solid Mineral Development.

Governor of Nasarawa State Abdullahi Sule responded to his appearance by expressing hope that it will promote growth at the nation’s third level of government.

Mua’zu’s ascent to the position of national president was characterized by the governor in a statement he signed with Ibrahim Addra, his chief press secretary, as a classic example of “whom the cap fits.”
