Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections, has announced that an external auditor has been contracted to examine the party’s accounts.

This decision comes after Oluchi Opara, the national treasurer of the LP, accused Julius Abure, the national chairman of the party, of misappropriating N3.5 billion.
In response to the allegation, the party suspended Opara, claiming she was being influenced by “external forces” intent on destroying the LP. Julius Abure also vowed to institute legal action against Opara for defaming his person.

Peter Obi, in a press conference, stated, “we will account for everything now that we have an independent person who will tell us which way forward.” He further clarified that he was not involved in the party’s management and the campaign accounts and assured that the money people gave him during the election was paid into one account or the other which was properly managed because he knew there would be days like this.

He also called on every member of the public with leads to where these millions and billions were paid to come forward.
