The acting General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority(LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare -Oki, has urged LASTMA officials to shun bribery and corruption, highlighting the need for them to act civilly when dealing with traffic violators.

Bakare -Oki, who was newly appointed by Governor Babajide-Sanwo-Olu, said this briefing LASTMA Comptrollers, Commander, and Zebras on his new vision and mission for the agency.

According to a statement on Sunday, the new LASTMA helmsman said traffic management in the state was entering a new era and the agency would stop at nothing to guarantee that commuters enjoy a smooth journey across the state.

Bakare -Oki said: “The public expects a corrupt-free LASTMA that will not be collecting bribes; therefore, you should be respectful and courteous even when you are apprehending an offender.

“Motorists want LASTMA that is decent and neat; we won’t tolerate laziness and lateness of our officers to their various duty posts. We would ensure a conducive working environment and provide elaborate training schemes for our officers to meet up with international standards and best practices in traffic management.”

Bakare -Oki cautioned the public, particularly commercial bus drivers, to always respect traffic restrictions as provided in the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018 while reaffirming the government’s commitment to the safety, welfare, and rights of people on duty.

The Director of Operations, Mr. Peter Gbejemede, responded on behalf of the LASTMA staff, welcoming the new acting General Manager and pledging their allegiance to the new administration.
