A 36-year-old mini-bus driver named Shonibare Oluwasegun was fatally stabbed following a heated argument with his landlord’s son over a parking space.
The altercation took place at 24 Adewunmi Close, Ilaje Ajah, on Sunday in Lagos.
According to reports, the dispute began when Taiye Adebayo, the landlord’s son, confronted Oluwasegun after the latter had parked his mini-bus and retired for the night.
Adebayo aggressively knocked on Oluwasegun’s door, demanding that the vehicle be moved. Despite Oluwasegun’s insistence that he had parked in his usual spot, the disagreement escalated into a violent confrontation.
The situation took a deadly turn when Adebayo allegedly stabbed Oluwasegun multiple times across his body. The driver’s brother, Shonibare Faid, recounted the harrowing experience of receiving a call about his brother’s demise from a private number at 1:29 am on Sunday morning.
In a state of urgency, Faid arrived at the scene by 6:20 am, only to find his brother’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, bearing multiple stab wounds.The local community has been left in shock by the senseless violence that stemmed from a commonplace dispute.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and further details are expected as the case unfolds.
”As early as 6:20am, I rushed to Ajah and met my brother’s lifeless body in the pool of his blood, as he was stabbed in different parts of his body.”
“Upon enquiry, I was told his landlord’s son, Adebayo, called him out to re-park his bus and that on reaching where his mini bus was, he asked Adebayo why he should tell him to re-park knowing that the space had been his normal parking position.
“Immediately I saw my brother’s corpse, I rushed down to the nearest police station in Ajah (Ajiwe) to report the case.
“At the station,the Divisional Crime Officer, and his team visited the scene of the incident and took pictures of the bus,the corpse and the building, where he lived with his family .“Thereafter, we were told to arrange for an ambulance while an escort was given by the police for the corpse to be taken to the Yaba Mortuary,” said the deceased brother.
Later the deceased family requested for a police report to bury the corpse according to Islamic rites.
Their request was refuted by the police because an autopsy needed to be carried out to determine the next line of action before being released for proper burial.
Police sources hinted that the case was being investigated at the Ajah Division but that no arrest had been made since the incident occurred.
“All we want is justice. I heard that Adebayo has stabbed more than three persons before my brother’s case that resulted in his death. He has always gone free in other cases because his family is influential. All we demand is justice,” Faid said.
