Lamidi Apapa Faction of Labour Party Advises Peter Obi to Seek Alternative Presidential Platform for 2027

In a recent development within the Labour Party, the Lamidi Apapa faction has offered advice to Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the party, suggesting that he should explore alternative political platforms for pursuing his presidential ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections. The recommendation comes in the wake of the faction’s affirmation of its authenticity by the Edo Division of the Court of Appeal.

Abayomi Arabambi, the spokesperson for the Apapa faction, shared this information during an exclusive interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday. This counsel follows Peter Obi’s appeal to the Supreme Court on Tuesday to challenge the verdict of the Presidential Election Petitions Court, which upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 presidential election.

The Apapa-led faction of the Labour Party had distanced itself from Peter Obi’s decision, as well as the Julius Abure faction’s choice, to contest Tinubu’s victory in court. The Imo State Court of Appeal had previously declared Lamidi Apapa as the legitimate National Chairman of the Labour Party on August 14.

Abayomi Arabambi emphasized that Peter Obi should reconsider his pursuit of an appeal against President Tinubu’s victory at the Supreme Court. The faction has taken proactive measures by initiating the search for an alternative presidential candidate in preparation for the 2027 elections.

This development signifies a significant division within the Labour Party and raises questions about the party’s direction and unity leading up to the next presidential election. The outcome of Peter Obi’s decision in response to this advice remains uncertain, but it underscores the intricate dynamics of Nigerian politics.
