Lagos State shuts down Third Mainland Bridge for repair for five weeks

Due to the state of the roads of the Third Mainland Bridge, the Lagos State government has decided to close sections of the bridge for the next five weeks, starting November 6, as it repairs the bridge.

Sola Giwa, special adviser on transportation to the governor of Lagos State, revealed that some sections of the Third Mainland Bridge would be closed on Monday, November 6, and the government would begin working on the ramps connecting Oworoshoki to Adekunle and Lagos Island.

Tinubu declares intention to establish a ‘special police force’

President Bola Tinubu’s administration has revealed its motive to create a special police unit for combatting unlawful mining nationwide.

Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, disclosed this motive while sharing the strategies the FG had in place for the contribution of mining to the economy.

“We found out through intelligence reports that some illegal miners are directly responsible for the upsurge of banditry in several parts of Nigeria,” he said.

“We are going to create a special police outfit. We’ll call it the Mining Police Force or the Mine Police,” he added.

IGP redeploys Commissioner of Police, cites neutrality during Imo elections

Kayode Egebtokun, the Inspector General (IGP), redeployed Mohammed Barde, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, ahead of the elections yet to take place in the state.

Several political parties and organisations, including the Labour Party (LP), have clamoured about the relieving of the position of the CP of Imo State after the assault on NLC president Joe Ajaero.

Air Peace secures direct flight licence to London

With the acquisition of the Foreign Carrier Operator Permit, FCOP, which grants access to fly to and from the UK, the Nigerian airline Air Peace has added a new achievement to its belt.

Air Peace is expected to begin its flight operations between Nigeria and London before the end of the year.

The Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema, revealed that the airline company had to undergo a “stringent audit” before being awarded the permit to fly to specific regions in Europe.

“We obtained these permits that qualify us to fly to the UK. Before you obtain these approvals, they will audit you very well. You have to go through a stringent audit, which we passed. We got the permit last week,” he said.

Appeal Court gives final judgement regarding the sacking of Kano State governor 

On September 20, 2023, the KEPT (Kano Election Petition Tribunal), led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay, sacked Abba Kabir Yusuf from his position as governor and upheld the legitimacy of Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna as rightful governor of the state.

After kicking him out of office, Kabir Yusuf appealed his case before the Supreme Court, challenging his nullification.

The Court of Appeal will give its final hearing on the governorship matter today, on November 6.

President Tinubu expresses ecstasy over win in Supreme Court against Obi and Atiku

President Bola Tinubu has spoken about his victory against Atiku Abubakar (PDP) and Peter Obi (LP) at the Supreme Court.

The President, while addressing Nyesom Wike, the minister of FCT and other cabinet members at the recent ministerial retreat.

“I am proud of myself. I went for the election, and I won with your support. They took me to court, and I won.” he said.
