“I am once again deeply troubled by the commencement of such an inconsiderate project at this critical time when the country is grappling with immense hardships,” Obi remarked. “In a country where the World Bank has reported that over 100 million citizens are slipping into poverty, it is inappropriate to render hundreds of individuals homeless to accommodate the luxurious aircraft of the Presidential fleet.”
Obi contended that rather than expanding the presidential fleet, the government should explore avenues to reduce or eliminate it in order to curb expenses.
“We cannot continue to endorse the lifestyle of those who have subjected us to suffering, living far beyond our reasonable means,” he asserted. “A democratically elected, people-centric government must prioritize the welfare of its citizens over its own interests.”
The presidential candidate appealed to the government to reconsider the demolitions and concentrate on implementing policies that would alleviate the plight of impoverished Nigerians.
“Consequently, I recommend a reconsideration, and, most importantly, guarantee that our fellow Nigerians are not displaced to make way for an unproductive presidential fleet,” Obi emphasized. “Our focus should be on assisting the people and developing our critical sectors for the sake of national harmony, advancement, and progress.”
Obi underscored that no nation can genuinely progress when its leaders prioritize their extravagance over the well-being of its citizens.
“A nation does not advance or develop by subjecting its people to unnecessary inconveniences to accommodate the opulent indulgences of its rulers,” he insisted.
