Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has lauded the achievement of a young Nigerian artist in breaking a Guinness World Record in painting.

In a statement on Sunday, Obi spotlighted Chancellor Ahaghotu, a Nigerian art student, who recently set a new record for the longest painting marathon by continuously painting for 100 hours.

Commenting on this accomplishment, Obi stated, “This is yet another heartening story emerging from a troubled nation plagued by successive leadership failures and inadequate guidance for its many young talents. I congratulate the young, talented student for this remarkable achievement, which undeniably demonstrates his hard work, resilience, and dedication to his art.”

The former Anambra governor also expressed that Ahaghotu’s extraordinary feat “undoubtedly reinforces our belief in a New Nigeria that is achievable.”

Encouraging the artist and other Nigerian youths, Obi emphasized the importance of continued self-development through hard work, asserting that it would equip them with the necessary skills to excel.

“I urge him and other Nigerian youths to continue to pursue the path of hard work and self-development, which will provide them with the essential skills to reach greater heights in life,” Obi affirmed.

Guinness World Record announced on Wednesday that Chancellor, a sophomore at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, had surpassed the previous record for the longest painting marathon of 60 hours set by Roland Palmaerts (Belgium/Canada) in 2013.

“I came to the United States to pursue my dreams and establish my career as a recognized artist,” Chancellor told GWR before commencing his record attempt.

He added, “Breaking the record will enhance my recognition as an artist both in my school and worldwide.”

Chancellor dedicated relentless effort over the course of four days to produce 106 pieces depicting various subjects, including celebrities, food items, plants, animals, and more.
