They labeled such speculations as the work of detractors. During a solidarity visit to the LP National Chairman, Julius Abure, at the party’s National Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, the Chairman of the Council of State Chairmen of the party, Ceekay Igara, spoke on behalf of his colleagues.

He clarified that they were content with the day-to-day running of party affairs by the Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC).

Igara stated, “We also want to use this opportunity to debunk the allegation that the Labour Party is planning to suspend our National Leader, Peter Obi.

As we said earlier, our party is under the worst siege ever, including unleashing fierce propaganda against the party. The party has not at any time contemplated the suspension of our leader.

He remains our leader and will continue to lead the party in our avowed determination to pull tahis nation out from the strangulation under this present government.”

He added, “We are also using this opportunity to beg our media friends to cease the ongoing media trial against our party and its leaders.

What you are witnessing now is orchestrated and will fizzle out very soon. We are also aware that some people are afraid of the fortunes of the party in the Edo state governorship election.”

Earlier, Igara stated the main reason for the visit, emphasizing their support for Barrister Abure’s leadership and addressing spurious allegations against the party’s leadership.

Igara addressed the alleged misappropriation of N3.5bn party funds, stating, “Let me emphatically state here that our money is not missing. We didn’t generate N3.5b as claimed by the now-suspended National Treasurer.

We can confirm that the party only realized N1.3 million during the 2023 general election and another Seven Hundred Million naira donations which were used by the Presidential Campaign Council. All these monies were lodged in the banks and were promptly receipted.”

He also commented on the accusations against Barrister Abure, highlighting that the National Chairman has been honest and dedicated, playing a vital role in the party’s growth and development.

Igara revealed that Peter Obi, the National Leader and Presidential Candidate in the last general election, has remained silent as he has privately mediated on the matter.

Igara attributed the crisis to political opponents who fear the future of the party, emphasizing that the sponsored crisis is aimed at derailing the party and preventing it from realizing its goals.

The council of chairmen expressed satisfaction with the party’s current state and passed a vote of confidence in Barrister Julius Abure and his executive.
