In response to the tragic death of Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, a 400-level biological science student at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, Obi made this statement.

Nabeeha was abducted together with her family, her captors killed her on Friday after requesting a ransom of N65 million naira.

After killing Nabeeha on Friday and freeing the father, the abductors have now threatened to kill the five sisters who are still alive.

On Saturday, Nabeeha was buried in accordance with Islamic customs.

In a series of tweets on Sunday, Obi noted that the horrific death demonstrated “how helpless Nigerians have become in the face of these dangers,” in addition to demonstrating how the country is being ravaged by insecurity.

According to him, the most recent tragedy ought to make authorities realize that, as stipulated by the constitution, their first responsibility is to safeguard the lives of all Nigerian citizens.

Obi demanded that further measures be made by the government and security services to guarantee the release of the family’s surviving captives.

In addition to expressing sympathy to the grieving family, the former governor of Anambra State prayed for the deceased’s soul to rest.

He wrote, “The reported tragic killing of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria student Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar, who was abducted by bandits in Abuja along with her father and siblings, not only shows how insecurity currently ravages the nation but also shows how helpless Nigerians have become in the face of abject poverty.”

The pain this family is going through and the innocent child’s blood should hurt us as leaders whose job it is to safeguard the lives of all Nigerians.

“It is evident how unsafe the rest of the country has become from the fact that these kidnappings, killings, and other documented cases of armed robbery and violent attacks are now occurring in Abuja, the nation’s capital.”
