SINGAPORE authority arrested 3,101 drug abusers in 2023, an increase of 10 per cent from 2022, according to an annual report released by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) Wednesday.
The report said that more than half of the new abusers were below 30.
It said that the number of new drug abusers arrested increased from 802 in 2022 to 944 in 2023.
It added that the youngest abusers arrested in 2023 were five and they were 14-years-old.
The CNB said it arrested 454 female abusers, an increase of 11 per cent from 2022.
The female accounted for 15 per cent of all arrested drug abusers.
The report showed that CNB officers seized drugs with a street value of more than 15 million Singapore dollars (11.1 million U.S. dollars).
The most common drugs abused in the city-state in 2023 were methamphetamine, heroin, and cannabis.
CNB Director Sam Tee noted that the authority would be relentless in the fight against drugs and would continue the preventive drug education programme.
