Former Director General of the Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization, Doyin Okupe, has resigned from the Labour Party.
Citing ideological differences post-2023 election as the basis for his departure, Okupe’s exit has sent shockwaves through the political landscape.
In a statement released to the press, Okupe expressed gratitude to the Labour Party and its leadership for providing a “Special Purpose Vehicle” in which to contest the 2023 Presidential Elections.
However, he acknowledged that the Labour Party’s left-of-center ideology clashed with his lifelong alignment with right-wing and liberal democratic principles, making continued membership untenable.
Okupe’s resignation comes at a time of significant change for the Labour Party, as it seeks to redefine its political identity in the aftermath of the 2023 elections.
The party, which has traditionally been a strong advocate for workers’ rights and social justice, will now have to navigate a new political landscape without one of its most prominent figures.
