Lauretta Onochie, former chairperson of the Niger Delta Development Commission Board, has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force to take action against Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the 2023 presidential election, for allegedly inciting violence in the country.

Onochie, who accused Obi of attempting to inflame violence through his supporters, known as Obidients, emphasized the need for accountability.

She questioned Obi’s fervor for the presidential post, stating that Nigerians are eager to understand his desperation, while assuring that the heavens would not fall if he were to be arrested.

Her call for Peter Obi’s arrest came in response to a video shared by Abubakar Sidiq Usman, with the caption

“This is the kind of man you wanted to make your President.” In the video, Obi can be heard urging Nigerian youths to challenge the country’s leaders regarding governance issues.

Onochie’s plea for action reads as follows: “Attention: @OfficialDSSNG, @PoliceNG

I believe it’s time to apprehend this individual.

  • Seeking power through the ballot box is the right path. That’s legal!
  • Winning some and losing most is part of the process. Fair enough!

“However, his running mate and other unpatriotic instigators have been attempting to incite our youth to violence. Yet, our sensible and patriotic youth have wisely ignored them, outnumbering his misguided followers.

“Realizing his lack of legal footing, he embarked on a futile trip to the Tribunal led by #Cashactivists, reopening issues already settled by the Supreme Court years ago.

“They even attempted to use the Labor movement to call for strikes around the PEPT judgement day. It ended in failure, thanks to our youth population!

“Peter Obi persists in pushing his followers towards violent government change. His desperation is unparalleled.

“There’s something troubling about a candidate who finished third in a race but insists on being declared the winner at any cost.

“I believe it’s time he was brought in for questioning. Nigerians are eager to understand why Peter Obi is this desperate. Rest assured, the heavens will not fall.”
