The legislator has disowned the account.

This Facebook account purportedly issuing loans as Elgeyo Marakwet woman representative Caroline Ng’elechei is FAKE.

The account uses the legislator’s image on its profile and cover photos. It had over 5,000 followers as of 22 November 2023.

The account has made several posts, such as this, claiming to offer loans. Prospective loanees are required to send the word ‘loan’ as a direct message to the account.

“Congratulations to those who have received their loans. To apply for the loan. Inbox me the word loan to my inbox,” reads the post.

The account’s profile transparency information indicates that it was created on 24 August 2023, a red flag as imposter accounts tend to be new.

But is the Facebook account authentic?

We searched for Caroline Ng’elechei on Facebook and established that the woman rep’s legitimate Facebook account is verified.

Unlike the account we are debunking, Ng’elechei’s Facebook account had over 11,000 followers as of 22 November 2023.

On 15 November 2023, Ng’elechei disowned the account and urged her followers to help report it.
