A former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Olumide Akpata, has joined the race for the 2024 governorship election in Edo State.
Akpata, who began his legal career with the renowned Nigerian lawyer, Dr. Mudiaga Odje, SAN, will run on the platform of the Labour Party if he wins the primary of the “Peter Obi’s LP”.
Following his decision to join the race, Akpata resigned from Templars, a leading law firm in Lagos where he served as Senior Partner.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Apata said he is leaving the firm to contribute to the critical task of nation building.
Akpata confirmed his resignation in a statement dated 24 August 2023.
The firm explained that Apata formally notified the other partners and management of the firm of his decision to participate in active politics.
The statement, however, noted that in line with the firm’s governance protocols, it was agreed that the former NBA President step aside from the firm with effect from Thursday, August 31, 2023, to pursue political ambition.
