Ekiti Association Houston Pledges N1.6m to Boost Academic Excellence in Nigeria
The Ekiti Association Houston, led by Pastor Bolu Alabi, has recently taken a significant stride in promoting academic excellence in Nigeria’s Ekiti State. The association has successfully organized its first annual prize-giving ceremony in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, where they disbursed a total of N1.6 million among the 32 top-scoring students of the Junior Secondary School (JSS3) level. This initiative seeks to foster a culture of educational competitiveness and encourage students to excel.
Encouraging Excellence in Academics
The association’s efforts are primarily focused on inspiring students to achieve their full potential. The financial rewards distributed during the ceremony are seen as an incentive for students to strive for better academic performance, thereby engendering a healthy competitive environment. The association, under Pastor Alabi’s leadership, intends to make this prize-giving ceremony an annual tradition, with a vision to extend the program to honor top students from every secondary school in Ekiti State in the future.
Applauding State Leadership
During the ceremony, Pastor Alabi expressed his admiration for Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his commendable work across various sectors in the state, primarily education. Alabi emphasized the Ekiti Association Houston’s desire to contribute to the state’s ongoing positive developments by acknowledging and rewarding academic achievers.
‘Education in a Season of Japa’
Adding to the event’s educational emphasis, renowned US Fulbright Scholar, Prof. Wole Olaiya, delivered a thought-provoking lecture titled ‘Education in a season of japa.’ In his speech, he advised students to steer clear of distractions and concentrate on acquiring an education that builds character, thereby contributing further to the event’s overall goal of encouraging academic excellence.
