Ahead of the governorship election of Edo, a retired commissioner of police and leader of the Labour Party in Edo Central Senatorial District, Chief Friday Ibadin, has publicly endorsed the candidacy of Barr. Asue Ighodalo.

Rising from a closed-door meeting, the combined leadership of the party from the five local governments in the region declared that they would support Ighodalo because they believed he is the most competent candidate on the ballot.

This was disclosed when a Ighodaloโ€™s delegation which included a former speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Friday Itulah, visited Ibadin at his Uromi country home.

Speaking during the meeting, Chief Ibadin reminded the delegation that he supported his friend, Peter Obi, not just because he was competent but also because he believed that for fairness, equity and justice, power should rotate to the South.

He added that in endorsing Ighodalo, he was simply fighting for the same principles to be applied in Edo State.

The LP Senatorial Youth Leader, Mr Osunbor Idemudia Emmanuel, from Esan South-East pledged to support Ighodalo but appealed to him to fix the roads in Edo Central if he wins the election.

He warned that the same hands that would vote him into office in September would be used to remove him from office should he fail to deliver on his promises.

In his response, Ighodalo stated he was humbled by the cross-party endorsement from the Labour Party leaders.

โ€œOnce campaigns begin I will come back to ask you to work with me to help me spread my message across the entire State. I believe that anybody who wants good for their people belongs to the same party I belong to. So, I sincerely thank you for looking beyond party politics to adopt me.

โ€œWe all love our people and want the best for them; I am clear in my mind that finding and working with a critical mass of people who hold these same views is how we will not only build our state but even the nation,โ€ Ighodalo said.
