Doyin Okupe, former Director General of Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization, has announced his resignation from the Labour Party, LP.

Okupe cited ideological differences that arose after the 2023 elections as the basis for his resignation.

He stated that his long-standing adherence to right-wing and liberal democratic principles clashed with LP’s left-of-center ideology, rendering continued membership unfeasible.

In a letter shared with journalists on Monday, Okupe wrote: “I hereby tender my resignation from the Labour Party with immediate effect. As you recall, our flagbearer, Mr. Peter Obi, and I, along with others, abruptly left the PDP and had to find a Special Purpose Vehicle in which to contest the 2023 Presidential Elections.”

“The Labour Party, including yourself and other party executives, graciously provided us with a suitable platform without any burdens, for which we were immensely grateful.”

“We contested the election under the banner of the Labour Party and were unsuccessful. This has made it exceedingly challenging for me to remain in a party that is rooted in left-of-center ideology.”

“I have been a proponent of right-wing and Liberal Democratic values my entire life. It is this ideological disparity that compels me to seek an exit, so that I may pursue my political endeavors in alignment with liberalism, sincerity, and freedom.”

“I extend my gratitude to you, particularly, and other party leaders for the warmth and respect shown to me during my tenure as the Director General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organization.”

“I wish you and the party success in all your future endeavors. Long live the Labour Party. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Your brother, friend, and compatriot, Omooba (Dr. Doyin Okupe, Former Director General Obi-Datti Campaign Organization.””
