A veteran actor in Nigeria, Mr Adejumo Lewis, otherwise known as Dejumo Lewis, has died at the age of 80.

This was confirmed by another actor in the country, Mr Saidi Balogun, in a post on one of his social media pages on Saturday morning.

It was gathered that the respected role interpreter, who gained fame through the popular television soap, The Village Headmaster, in the early days of the tube in Nigeria, died in the wee hours of today.

The deceased became famous after acting as a king in the play, which is the longest-running television soap opera in the country, airing from 1964, when the first episode was shown to 1988 on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).

There have been attempts to revive the TV play but it has struggled to gain the admiration it had when it first aired on television.

Dejumo Lewis acted in the drama series alongside the late Femi Robinson, the late Justus Esiri, and Ibidun Allison, well known as Amebo in the film, among others.

“Good night Dejumo Lewis, may your soul rest in perfect peace,” Saidi Balogun posted today while sharing the photo of the late veteran.

After The Village Headmaster, Dejumo Lewis acted in other movies, including Crossroads, and A Place in the Stars, among others.
