Speaker Tajudeen Abbas of the House of Representatives has offered his consolation to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) candidates, urging them to stay strong.
Abbas stated that the judgment in favor of President Bola Tinubu was anticipated and not surprising. Soon after extending his congratulations to the president, he said, “To God be the glory. We were expecting this outcome. We knew that what we heard today is what would be said eventually. Although it came in these early hours, we have nothing else to say except to thank God for Nigeria and the good people who prayed for this historic victory.”
“Now, after this pronouncement, we have no excuse but to resume our usual business and reassess our agenda to see what we can do for the people of Nigeria in the next three and a half or four years.”
Soothing the opposition, he added, “They should take comfort in the fact that there is always one victor at a time. This is Asiwaju’s moment, and they should all find solace and join hands with him to elevate Nigeria to greater heights.”
