The Church and Society Department of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), also known as Caritas Nigeria, has urged the international community to help Nigeria overcome the insecurity challenge and swift justice for the victims of the December 2023 Christmas Eve attacks in parts of Plateau State.
Revd. Fr. Uchechukwu Obodoechina, Director, Church and Society Department CSN, made the call in a statement he signed.
He expressed sadness at the killings of over 150 innocent individuals in Ndun, Ngyong, Murfet, Makundary, Tamiso, Chiang, Tahore, Gawarba, Dares, Meyenga, Darwat, and Butura Kampani villages in the Barkin Ladi, Mangu and Bokkos local government areas in Plateau State on Christmas Eve 2023.
“This act clearly shows how predatory, vulnerable and precarious our lives are in Nigeria. The Christmas Eve killings have had a devastating impact on the affected communities in Plateau State,” Obodoechina said.

He lamented that hundreds of families have been torn apart, and many have been left without homes or livelihoods.
The Caritas Nigeria boss said that the incident has also raised concerns about Nigeria’s security situation and the government’s effectiveness in protecting its citizens.
He urged all Nigerians to come together in the spirit of unity, peace, and love to overcome this dark moment in the nation’s history and for all Nigerians to work together to promote tolerance, understanding, and mutual respect among our diverse ethnic and religious communities.
