INEC declares Douye Diri as Governor of Bayelsa State
On Monday 13, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Douye Diri (PDP) as the winner of the Bayelsa State off-cycle elections with 175,196 votes to secure his position as governor over his competition Timipre Sylva (APC), who got 73,503 votes.
The Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi State off-cycle elections began on Saturday 11; however, the two states’ results have been revealed. INEC postponed Bayelsa’s results till Monday due to the collation of results.
Hope Uzodinma won the Imo State election with 540,308 votes, while Ahmed Usman Ododo led the fierce competition in Kogi with 439, The federales.
FG warns NLC and TUC against their decision to strike despite court order
The Nigerian government has warned the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The Organised Labour announced that they would be embarking on a nationwide strike starting November 14 as they demanded justice for the wrongdoings committed against the NLC president, Joe Ajaero, whom the Imo State Police Officers brutalised.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), revealed that he had acquired a restraining order from the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) prohibiting the NLC and TUC from embarking on the strike.
Peter Obi donates 20 million to Enugu Hospital
Presidential candidate Peter Obi has resumed his philanthropic duties in Nigeria as he caters to the weak economy and the lives of many the government abandoned.
The previous Anambra State governor revealed that his reason for donating such an amount to Faith Foundation Mission Hospital, Nsukka, was to help boost the construction of a College of Nursing Sciences.
He made his donation and reasons known on a popular social media platform (X), where he revealed that he was committed to “investing in the most critical areas of national development, namely: health, education, and poverty eradication.
Canada reviews application requirements for dependents’ visa for Nigerians, others
The Canadian authorities have reviewed the application requirements and made some changes to sponsoring relatives (parents and grandparents) after the increase in applications by sponsors.
The authorities announced their decision in a memo which stated that the Internal Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) received 15,000 complete applications in 2015 by choosing prospective sponsors from the pool of interest to sponsor forms submitted in 2020.
According to the memo, it would allocate 28,500 admissions to relatives in 2023, increasing to 32,000 and 34,000 in 2025 and 2025; however, due to the rapid demand for applications in the existing pool, no more admissions would be considered in 2023.
Saudi Arabia cancels visa of Nigerians after arriving in Jeddah
The actions of the Saudi Arabian authorities shocked the 264 Nigerians whose visas were revoked after flying from Lagos and Kano airports to King Abdul-Aziz International Airport, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi authorities were strict with their decision as they demanded that the airlines return to where they came from upon announcing the cancellation of their visas.
After much scrutiny, the Saudi Arabian government later reduced the number of Nigerians returning from 264 to 177; most were in the country for Hajj (Umrah).
