‍Call For Help: Peter Obi, Obidients Say No To Atiku

The request by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar for massive support from the leaders of opposition political parties in Nigeria may hit the rock.

Already, signs that Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party who placed third in the last presidential election and the Obidients that he leads are not enthusiastic about Atiku’s call for help is gradually emerging.

Although Obi has not spoken on the matter directly, Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesman for the Labour Party candidate said on Arise Television that Atiku Abubakar should stew in his own juice.

Okonkwo who reacted on Friday noted that Atiku is one of those who have brought Nigeria to a near standstill because of their personal ambitions.

The spokesman provided an account of Atiku’s spirited bid to truncate the effort of the South to produce a president.

He said a generational shift would have been  achieved through the ballot if Atiku had thrown his weight behind Obi’s ambition to govern Nigeria.

Instead, he said Atiku preferred to pursue a sinister agenda, even when he knew it was not the turn of the North to contest for the exalted office which ought to go to the South.

He blamed Atiku and his generation for the woes which have befallen Nigeria and declared that the PDP presidential flagbearer is on his own.

For emphasis, Okonkwo said the Labour Party presidential candidate and the Obidients would never support for Atiku’s call for help at this point.

He regretted that greed and an ethnic pursuit had made it impossible for Atiku to enter the history books as a highly respected Nigerian patriot.

Across the nation, a massive debate is currently ongoing in pubs, homes, cabs and even the street.

The debate is centred around what the Chicago State University may have openly deposed to while availing Atiku’s lawyers of the details of Tinubu’s academic records.

While lawyers and politicians on Atiku’s side maintain they have proven a case of forgery, others insist that the institution has shown that Atiku graduated while schooling there.

It is still not clear why the presidential flagbearer of the PDP is calling for help outside the courtroom.

What form or shape will the support that Atiku is seeking take?

Is it possible that the PDP presidential candidate is laying an ambush for Justices of the Supreme Court?

Is it possible that he wants to champion a breakdown in law and order across the country?

Is it possible that Atiku does not know that the case is reap for hearing at the Supreme Court?

These are questions to which there are no direct answers at this time.

But not many Nigerians at home and abroad are happy about the image problem that the certificate saga is introducing as Nigeria beckons to the world.

Information emerging from the political mill suggest that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had investigated Tinubu when he was Governor of Lagos State.

Obasanjo however found nothing irregular about Tinubu’s qualification at the time, but Atiku appears he has found something that his former boss could not.

Addressing the press in Abuja Thursday, Atiku claimed he had stumbled on proof that the president had lied and described his relationship with Tinubu as frosty.

Despite the arguments posited by Atiku and his supporters, the issue of Tinubu’s alleged falsification of his records is not a matter before the courts. It was not there at the tribunal stage.

It is doubtful that the Supreme Court would allow the introduction of fresh elements in the matter transmitted from the Court of Appeal which first heard the petitions filed by Atiku and other aggrieved candidates.
