The gunmen responsible for the abduction of 287 students and teachers from the LEA Primary School and Government Secondary School in Kuriga, Kaduna State, have issued a deadline of March 27, 2024, for the payment of ransom. The demand comes after an initial request for one billion naira for the release of the hostages.

The abduction took place on March 7, 2024, when the bandits forcibly took the schoolchildren into the forest. Jubril Aminu, a community leader acting as a representative for the families of the hostages, received a call from the kidnappers confirming the deadline for ransom payment.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Military has announced collaboration with international partners to facilitate the safe release of the abducted students. Efforts are underway to negotiate with the bandits and secure the freedom of the hostages before the looming deadline.
