The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate for 2023, Mr. Peter Obi, has called on Vice President Kashim Shettima to take leadership of security in response to the growing level of insecurity in Nigeria. President Bola Tinubu, on the other hand, should handle economic matters as per their campaign pledge.
On Tuesday night, Obi expressed his worries via X, highlighting the pressing nature of the situation given the recent spike in violence that has been occurring in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He emphasized the unfortunate recent deaths of the two young girls who were kidnapped in Abuja, calling the situation urgent and distressing.
Obi was alluding to a declaration made by Shettima in August 2022 during the Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference.
Shettima had made it clear that, should he be elected, President Tinubu would handle economic affairs and he would be in charge of security.
Obi urged Shettima and Tinubu to keep their campaign pledges, pushing them to exert full effort even if obtaining perfect outcomes could be difficult.
In addition, he said that government leaders should not go abroad in any capacity until the country has satisfactorily addressed the security concerns of its people.
In order to achieve significant development, Obi underlined that Nigeria’s persistent violence and insecurity must be really tackled. He also mentioned that international partners and investors would be reluctant to make investments in the nation given the current situation.
